Restore Education Employment Manager Andrew Saenz with CDL graduate, JW.
Our Eastside Center for Excellence saw over seventy (70) candidates ‘take the wheel’ on a new career at our CDL Employer Engagement & Hiring Event!
The forum showcased job-ready CDL graduates and connected them with top transportation and logistics employers, such as San Antonio Water System (SAWS) and Acadian Ambulance, actively hiring in their field. Approximately thirty (30) on-the-spot interviews were conducted and even a handful of offers made to students who took advantage of this awesome networking opportunity.
One of our standout student stories of the day featured CDL graduate, JW (shown left).
JW completed our CDL 70135 program in June 2024. His journey has been remarkable: from experiencing homelessness to completing CDL training, securing full-time employment with Windy City West, purchasing a vehicle and company rigs, and now mentoring the next generation of CDL graduates. At Wednesday’s event, JW met with attendees and encouraged them to join him in Odessa, hauling sand at the oil fields; a powerful testament to growth, perseverance, and the impact of programs like ours.
The event also benefited from strong partner support, including the City of San Antonio Workforce Development Office, Workforce Solutions Alamo, Chrysalis Ministries, Goodwill San Antonio, Project Quest, and Alamo Colleges.
